The National Institute of Statistics (INS) has released its labour and unemployment figures for the second quarter of 2025, revealing a decrease in the overall number of unemployed individuals. The total stood at 651,100, down by 13,400 from 664,500 in the first quarter. The national unemployment rate declined to 15.3%, compared to 15.7% in the previous quarter.
A gender breakdown shows improvement for men, whose unemployment rate dropped from 13.6% to 12.6%. However, the situation worsened for women, with unemployment rising to 20.9%, up from 20.3%. The labour force grew to 4,259,900 individuals in Q2 2025 — an increase of 26,500 compared to Q1. Of this, men accounted for 2,899,800 (68.1%) and women 1,360,100 (31.9%).
Despite the growth in workforce numbers, the activity rate — which measures the proportion of working-age individuals active in the labour market — declined slightly, falling to 46.2% from 46.4% in the previous quarter. Youth unemployment (ages 15–24) also improved, dropping to 36.8% from 37.7%. The rate was 36.4% for young men and 37.8% for young women.

However, unemployment among university graduates rose to 24.0%, compared to 23.5% in Q1. Among graduates, 14.2% of men and 31.3% of women remained jobless.
