Minister Belaid underscored Tunisia’s continued commitment to collaborating with the IAEA in order to strengthen national capabilities across various sectors. Mondher Belaid, Tunisia’s Minister of Higher Education and Chairman of the National Nuclear Energy Committee, represented the country at the 69th session of the General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), held in Vienna from September 15 to 19. During his address to the international assembly, Minister Belaid underscored Tunisia’s continued commitment to collaborating with the IAEA in order to strengthen national capabilities across various sectors. He emphasized the country’s focus on ensuring the peaceful, secure, and civil use of nuclear energy as part of its broader development strategy.
Belaid highlighted Tunisia’s active support for the IAEA’s mission and its various programs and initiatives. He reaffirmed the agency’s critical role in advancing the peaceful applications of nuclear technology to support sustainable development on a global scale.
The minister also outlined Tunisia’s strategic priorities in the nuclear field, noting the country’s intention to enhance governance in the sector. This includes the development of a comprehensive legal framework and improvements to the institutional infrastructure to align with international best practices. These steps aim to ensure responsible oversight and maximize the benefits of nuclear science and technology for national development.
