Tunisia is boiling because of the internal strife. Tunisian police used tear gas and water cannons last Friday to disperse hundreds of demonstrators protesting against the President Kais Saied. Demonstrators had gathered despite restrictions on mass congregations imposed by the government.

More than 1000 protesters defied the restrictions and started sloganeering against the regime on Mohamed V Avenue. However, they were prevented from entering Habib Bourguiba Avenue, the epicenter of the massive protests. Some protesters broke the police cardon before the police pushed them back with batons, tear gas and cannons.

Some of the protesters chanted slogans against the president and shouted down the coup, ostensibly referring to Saied’s move on July 25 last year to dismiss the government, freeze parliament and seize a range of powers.
