Massive protests are taking place in Morocco against the high cost of living and the steady decline in the purchasing power of the people. Moroccan trade union activists staged a massive protest saying that even the essential goods are beyond their reach

Massive protests are taking place in Morocco against the high cost of living and the steady decline in the purchasing power of the people. Moroccan trade union activists staged a massive protest saying that even the essential goods are beyond their reach.

Upshot among the demands of the trade union is the demand for a ceiling on fuel prices. They also want a reduction in indirect taxes on basic products, besides a reduction in income tax to support purchasing power. The trade union activists said that they are demonstrating to defend every citizen, every employee, and every civil servant.

According to official data, Inflation in Morocco hit 8.2% in March. Food price inflation at   16.1% is the worst development. Added to this is the low expected performance of the agriculture sector because of the massive rain deficit. This will have an adverse impact on food production in the next season.
