Trade exchange between Egypt and Malaysia has been on the upswing. It increased by 81 percent during 2021, to a record US$809.849 million, compared to US$495.261 million in 2020, according to the head of the Commercial Office in Kuala Lumpur, Hany Ezzat.
Trade exchange between Egypt and Malaysia has been on the upswing. It increased by 81 percent during 2021, to a record US$809.849 million, compared to US$495.261 million in 2020, according to the head of the Commercial Office in Kuala Lumpur, Hany Ezzat.
Ezzat explained that the trade balance was tilted in favour of Malaysia with a value of US$459.465 million in 2021, compared to US$296.234 million in 2020. Egyptian exports to Malaysia in 2021 reached the US $219.5 million, compared to US$99.5 million in 2020. This was an increase of 121 percent.
Egypt’s non-oil exports to Malaysia increased by 35 percent in 2021 to reach US$126,736 million, compared to US$94.022 million in 2020. The Egyptian petroleum exports to Malaysia jumped by 1519 percent to US$92.777 million, compared to $5.491 million, according to Ezzat.

The most important Egyptian exports to Malaysia are phosphates and fertilizers. They increased by 39 percent. Exports of oranges and citrus fruits have gone up by 25 percent, grapes by 10 percent, other waste from the iron or steel industry by 3 percent, dates by 2 percent, onions by 2 percent, fresh strawberries by 1 percent, and other fresh fruits by 1 percent, and other exports by 17 percent. Egyptian imports from Malaysia increased by 72 percent in 2021 to US$678,978 million, compared to the US $395,747 million in 2020.
