Tourism Receipts Go Up in Morocco

New statistics released by the Office of Exchange recently show that the recorded revenue reflects a 2.3% increase compared to the same period last year.

 Morocco’s tourism revenues recorded MAD 49 billion (USD 4.9 billion) in the first six months of 2024 against MAD 47.9 billion (USD 4.8 billion) in the same period last year, new data indicates. New statistics released by the Office of Exchange recently show that the recorded revenue reflects a 2.3% increase compared to the same period last year.

Tourist arrivals also increased by 13.9% in the first half of this year, the same data revealed. The office attributed the increase to the inflow of tourists recorded in the first six months of 2024, with arrivals reaching 7 million tourists.

Foreign tourists represented a rate of 54.2%, showing a 16.3% increase compared to the same period last year. Moroccan diaspora arrivals represented a rate of 45.8%, with an 11.2% increase.

Data from the Directorate of Studies and Financial Forecasts (DEPF) shows that tourism revenues increased by 1.6% by the end of May 2024 following a 4.2% decrease in the first quarter of the year.

DEPF added that overnight stays in classified accommodation venues grew by 145% during the first two months of the second quarter of 2024 following a 2.9% increase in the first quarter of the same year. Overnight stays rose by 8.3% over the first five months of 2024 driven by a 13% increase in non-resident overnight stays.

The Office of Exchange expects the tourism industry’s success to further grow and accelerate in the second quarter of this year as evidenced by the performance of all sector indicators.
