The Libyan capital Tripoli was hit by heavy rains in recent days, leading to flooding of main roads and disruption of schools. The Tripoli Security Directorate announced that it was taking over the towing of cars that broke down due to the heavy rains that flooded the streets.
The Traffic Affairs Office of the Tripoli Security Directorate called for the need to take precautions. Libya’s National Meteorological Centre said northern Libya would experience heavy rain and thunderstorms in the coming few days also.

At least two people died as a result of the torrential rains. The Libyan city of Gharyan was the most affected region. Two fatalities were reported as their vehicles were swept away and fell in a ditch in the center of Gharyan, located 75 km south of the capital, Tripoli. Relief work in the city has been spearheaded by the Red Crescent. A state of emergency was declared and the administration has ordered the closure of all educational institutions due to the high rainfall registered. The storms that affected the capital, Tripoli, and its outskirts since Sunday morning caused flooding of the main roads.
