Angola Cables, a leading telecommunications firm in Angola, has been recognized by the Centre for Applied Internet Data Analysis (CAIDA) as the world’s 21st largest internet interconnection operator. This achievement highlights the company’s vital role in Africa’s digital ecosystem and expanding global connectivity influence.

The ranking emphasizes Angola Cables’ significant impact on internet traffic across Africa, with over 70% of the continent’s traffic estimated to pass through its network. Additionally, the company is recognized as the most interconnected operator among the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP), reinforcing its leadership in both regional and international telecommunications.

Angola Cables manages an expansive network capable of processing more than 18,488 terabits per second (Tbps) of data—accounting for approximately 1% of global internet traffic. Its infrastructure connects five key regions: Africa, Europe, Latin America, North America, and Asia, offering robust connectivity, reduced latency, and enhanced reliability for users and partners worldwide. Central to this network is the South Atlantic Cable System (SACS), a cutting-edge submarine cable linking Angola to Brazil. The SACS infrastructure facilitates rapid communication and connectivity to major global technology firms, including Amazon, Google, and Meta. This system plays a pivotal role in linking Africa to other parts of the world, supporting the growth of digital ecosystems.

In addition to the SACS cable, Angola Cables operates Angonix, one of Africa’s premier internet exchange points, and two state-of-the-art data centres: AngoNAP Luanda in Angola and AngoNAP Fortaleza in Brazil. The company’s extensive submarine cable network spans over 33,000 kilometres, providing seamless access to over 66 interconnected data centres globally.
