Togo’s poultry output is poised triple   by the end of 2023.  Eggs production will reach 250 million units, against 188 million now. From 2010 to 2019, the country’s poultry output increased from over 8 million heads to more than 26 million heads.

This statistics about poultry production was revealed by the former minister of agriculture and fisheries (MAPAH), Noël Koutera Bataka. He was responding to a mail sent by Deputy Gerry Komandega Taama about the recent import ban on frozen poultry.

The poultry sector is identified as a strategic sector to promote the industries of meat processing and to create massive jobs in the country in the 2018-2022 national development plan. The sector could generate up to 150,000 jobs by 2025. So, the government is undertaking various initiatives to structure and support enterprises of this sector to achieve the set targets, such as training people in poultry farming and streamlining the bottlenecks in accessing credit from the banks. Also, poultry clusters are being developed. Over 50 such clusters are likely to come up in the future.
