195

The three-day African Economic Conference (AEC)  held  on 2-4 December, Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, was participated by  over 350 delegates. There were three principal focus for the conference namely jobs, skills, and capacity development. Delegates included researchers, youth representatives, business leaders, policymakers and media representatives from Africa and beyond, who discussed policies and strategies for successful inclusive growth and job creation in the region.

The 14th edition of the AEC has stepped up the direct dialogue  of Africa’s youth  with other stakeholders, including the private sector. This is borne out of the realization that employment is the cornerstone of economic and social development.  Focus on vocational training, adequate number of job creation, empowering marginalized people to make them employable, creation of avenues for self-employment by extending appropriate financial packages etc were some of the  topics discussed at the  conference.
