The United States grades Kenya’s travel advisory to Level Two

  • Under a fresh advisory published on June 8, the United States has shifted Kenya’s travel advisory to Level Two from the previous Level 4, which allows Americans citizens to travel into the country but under caution.
  • Under the earlier Level 4 classification, US had advised its citizens not to travel to Kenya after the American Centers for Disease Control (CDC) raised concerns over a spike in Covid-19 cases.

 

Under a fresh advisory published on June 8, the United States has shifted Kenya’s travel advisory to Level Two from the previous Level 4, which allows American citizens to travel into the country but under caution.Under the earlier Level 4 classification, the US had advised its citizens not to travel to Kenya after the American Centers for Disease Control (CDC) raised concerns over a spike in Covid-19 cases.

US State Department continues to warn travellers coming to Kenya about crime, terrorism, health issues, and kidnapping and cautioned its citizens to desist from travelling to the Kenya-Somalia border and some coastal areas due to terrorism.

The update is a huge relief for the tourism industry that can expect international visitors this year and was welcomed by Kenya Tourism Federation (KTF). The sector was hit badly since last year by Covid-19.

COVID 19 cases in Kenya soared in March, forcing President Uhuru Kenyatta to declare lockdown on Nairobi and four other neighbouring counties that restricted movement of people, including tourists. However, after the cases subsided, the lockdown has since been lifted.
