The Pipeline Cooperation Agreement (PCA) for the NMGP project was part of the agenda of high-level discussions between, Morocco’s King Mohammed VI and Nigeria’s President Buhari during their visits. The current proposal includes extending the existing pipeline which was set up since 2010 from Nigeria to Benin, Togo and Ghana to Morocco. According to official sources, the project will enable Nigeria to utilise its stranded gas particularly in the Deepwater and also offers opportunity to boost economic growth of West African sub-Continent and part of North Africa contributing to peace and security. Assuring NNPC of the Moroccan government’s total support towards the project, the Director General of the ONHYM, Amina Benkhadra, underlined the need for bringing in International Oil companies to speed up the process..

The Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Mallam Mele Kyari,at a stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja stated that the Nigeria-Morocco Gas Pipeline (NMGP) project will open new vistas for Nigeria. It will extend its supply access from Nigeria to Morocco and the West African sub-region and further into Europe. its Moroccan partner on the Gas Project, is the Morocco National Office for Hydrocarbons & Mines (ONHYM).
