The Ministry of PT-NTIC of DRC and the Egyptian group Benya Olding signs MOU

· MOU was signed between the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and New Information and Communication Technologies, DRC and the Egyptian group Benya holding for the deployment of 16,000km fiber optic body of the national network.

· The MOU will commence work on the project which will link various cities and territories of the country.

A memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed between the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and New Information and Communication Technologies (PT-NTIC), DRC and the Egyptian group Benya holding for the deployment of 16,000km fiber optic body of the national network. The initial discussion on the project took place during the visit made by the Minister of PT-NTIC leading a Congolese delegation to Egypt in January. The MOU will commence work on the project which will link various cities and territories of the country.

The contract is expected to be signed after the two parties finalize the financial, legal and technical parameters. A spokesman from the Ministry stated that the project is expected to lay the foundation for DRC’s digital transformation, so that the concept of digital technology and its tangible experience develop and mature not only in Kinshasa, but also in other cities and territories of the country. “These bases are none other than the infrastructures which today constitute the bedrock of digital development”, concludes the Minister.

Speaking about the MOU,Benya CEO Ahmed Mekky said that African countries had all the potential to embrace and accelerate digital transformation as an engine of growth. He added that wth the necessary funds and investments basic infrastructure and skills can be created.
