The Indian Association of Uganda has urged the Ugandan Government to relax the restriction for entry of Indian nationals into Uganda.  Due to the spike in COVID 19 in India, Uganda has denied entry for Indian nationals into Uganda.

The appeal was made by Mr Rao Mohan, the chairperson of the Indian Association of Uganda,   at the virtual celebration of India’s 75th Independence Day anniversary celebrations in Kampala hosted by the Indian high commissioner Ajay Kumar. Mr Rao said that many of their members including technical staff are unable to come to Uganda due to the restrictions imposed by the Ugandan government while Ugandan nationals resident in India are being allowed to Uganda.

Speaking at the virtual meeting, Mr Ajay Kumar, the Indian High Commissioner to Uganda stated that India is keen to strengthen its ties with Uganda. He added that the Export and Import Bank of India has pledged $141 million (about Shs492 billion) loan to the Uganda government to build electricity transmission lines.  Exim bank will also provide another loan of $61m (about Shs214 billion) to improve dairy processing in the country. These projects are expected to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
