Morocco is positioning itself as a leader in sustainable and green mobility amid global climate change and urbanisation challenges. At the Green Impact Expo & Summit 2025 in Casablanca, Industry and Trade Minister Ryad Mezzour announced plans for the country to become one of only six nations worldwide with complete electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing capabilities.
Utilizing its rich natural resources, particularly phosphate and cobalt, Morocco aims to build a fully integrated supply chain for EV production, potentially tripling its exports by 2030. The country is also revolutionizing its public transportation system, planning to introduce 7,000 electric buses in time for the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
Casablanca’s tramway system serves as a model for sustainable urban transit, having transported over 357 million passengers in a decade and contributing to urban greening efforts. Similarly, Morocco’s railway sector is investing nearly $939 million in modernization and new rolling stock, with a significant increase in ridership, driven by green technologies.
