The government of Ethiopia allots funds for feasibility studies of irrigation projects

  • The government of Ethiopia has been taking various measures to boost food security. As part of  these initiatives,it has allocated 500 million birr for preparing feasibility study and design of 23 irrigation projects during the current Ethiopian fiscal year.

 

The government of Ethiopia has been taking various measures to boost food security. As part of  these initiatives,it has allocated 500 million birr for preparing feasibility study and design of 23 irrigation projects during the current Ethiopian fiscal year.

 According to the Ministry of Irrigation and Lowlands,Ethiopia achieved remarkable success in lowland wheat production.About 25 million quintals of wheat is expected to be harvested this year through this lowland wheat production. The positive outcome of the initiative has encouraged the Government to plan expansion of the wheat irrigation and dams. Towards this, the government is undertaking feasibility study and designs of new irrigation projects besides trying to finalize the already started projects. According to the official sources, the projects include grand and medium dams as well as river diversion in all regions of the country.
