OCP, Morocco’s state-owned fertilizer company has agreed to supply the Gambia with 13,000 tonnes of fertilizers at a “special price, “according to Gambian media sources. The initiative will support 13,000 smallholder farmers of Gambia and is part of OCP Africa’s Commitment to assisting smallholder farmers.
African farmers were severely hit by the Ukraine-Russia conflict. Most of the African countries used to import significant quantities of fertilisers from both countries. The war not only disrupted the supply but also led to soaring fertilizer prices. The agriculture Ministry of Morocco said that OCP Africa’s commitment will support achieving food security in Africa.
During the recently held US-Africa Business Summit in Marrakech last week, OCP announced its fertilizer program of donations and special prices to supply over 500 kilotons of fertilizer to African farmers.
