An agreement was signed between the Ethio-American Doctors Group (EADG) and China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) to build a state-of-the-art hospital in Addis Ababa. The agreement was signed by the Ethio-American Doctors Group (EADG) President Dr. Tesfaye Fanta and CCECC Managing Director Guo Chongfeng.
EADG Health Care Center Project Phase I will be built two to three years to offer quality health services. The primary objective of the project, it was reported, is to open a world-class medical center that offers state-of-the-art medical care, and act as a center of excellence that attracts medical tourists to Ethiopia. It will also transfer medical knowledge and skill for the local staff. The project is expected to make a huge social impact.
The estimated cost of the project is about 5-6 billion Birr. EADG members have raised over 12 million USD for the project. EADG plans to sell shares to domestic and foreign investors to cover the cost. They are also seeking bank loans. The design and foundation of the hospital have been completed.
The second phase will include specialized hospitals, training and research, and in the third phase, it will build institutions that support the medical center.
CCECC Managing Director, Guo Chongfeng remarked that the hospital will be a landmark in Addis Ababa and will change the health sector landscape in Ethiopia. The hospital will have a special focus on Cardiovascular, Neurosurgery and Oncology, the first of its kind in the Horn of Africa.
EADG was incorporated as a C-Corp (for profit) in North Carolina on May 2011. currently, it has 350 plus physician members and other health care providers.
