The 5th session of the Morocco-Japan Joint Committee held, in Rabat, has chalked out a road map to boost the Moroccan-Japanese cooperation. The Joint committee meeting witnessed the signing of three agreements, that will complement the legal framework governing economic relations between the two countries. It will also facilitate the strengthening of Japanese investments in Morocco.
Foreign Affairs minister of Morocco Mohcine Jazouli in his opening address appreciated the financial and technical support extended by the Japanese government, through the JICA, for the various development projects in Morocco. He urged the Japanese government to consider Morocco as a gateway for Japanese industrial exports towards the African continent and the Mediterranean region. He pointed out that partner countries will benefit from such a tripartite cooperation.
Japanese Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Keisuke Suzuki in his response highlighted the geographic potential of Kingdom and added that the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD VII), held last year in Yokohama, Japan, recognised the significance of “involving more private economic actors”. He cited the Tokyo Olympics as an opportunity to enhance the relations between the two sides, in the field of sport and culture, as well as between peoples.
