The alleged presence of Russian mercenaries in Burkina Faso is the cause of the latest tension between the country and its neighbour Ghana. Ghana claimed that Ouagadougo had invited Russian mercenaries into the country.
Ghana’s President Nana Akufo-Addo made a comment recently that a contract between the transitional government of Burkina Faso and a private Russian company was struck. Triggered by this statement, Burkina Faso has summoned the Ghanaian ambassador in Ouagadougou and their ambassador in Accra for consultations.
A verbal note of protest has already been conveyed to Accra by Burkina Faso against the Ghanaian president’s comments.
