The World Happiness Report is out and it has also referred to the 10 happiest countries in Africa. Prepared by the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network, the report has ranked the countries on the basis of statistical analysis to adjudge them on the basis of measurable standards indicating happiness. The report also reveals countries that provide the highest levels of well-being and individual and collective satisfaction.
While ranking the countries based on statistical tools, the UN body takes into consideration an assortment of criteria, such as economic, social, and environmental factors. The ranking also amplifies how the countries with lesser rankings should tool their people-centric policies in the future.
Importantly, the report calculates that benevolence was about 25% higher than it was in the pre-pandemic days, indicating that during the pandemic days helping strangers including other countries would have gone up dramatically.
Interestingly, the report says that the global happiness index was remarkably resilient for the pandemic years, between 2020 and 2022 as compared to the three years preceding the pandemic’. This means that the pandemic did not have much impact on the happiness index of people. Analysts, however, maintain that this could be true in the case of a few developed countries; but for a large number of least developed and developing countries, the pandemic was a big jolt on their material well-being. The average, they maintain, may not reflect reality.

Amongst countries in Africa, ranked high internecine in terms of happiness indices are Mauritius, Libya, Ivory Coast, South Africa, Gambia, Algeria, Liberia, Congo, Morocco, and Mozambique.
