Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan is set to officially inaugurate the Kwala Dry Port in Kibaha District, Coast Region, along with the launch of the high-speed cargo train (SGR) operations between Dar es Salaam and Dodoma. The historic event is scheduled to take place on July 31, 2025, in the Coast Region.

The announcement was made on July 25, 2025, by the Minister for Transport, Professor Makame Mbarawa, during a press briefing held in Dar es Salaam. Professor Mbarawa explained that the government initiated the construction of the Kwala Dry Port to address long-standing congestion challenges at the Dar es Salaam Port, largely caused by the accumulation of cargo and the limited capacity of existing inland container depots. The new facility, he said, is expected to significantly boost the country’s economic development and ease port congestion.
