The opening of France’s Liaison Office is expected to be a step towards a full-fledged France Embassy in Dodoma. The newly opened office will accommodates the Embassy, and also the French Development Agency (AFD).
Inaugurating the French Embassy office, Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Dr Stergomena Tax opened stated that the move has opened a new chapter in Tanzania-France relations. After its decision to move its headquarters to Dodoma, the Tanzanian government has to encourage embassies and international organisations to establish their offices in Dodoma as it guarantees to facilitate the smooth relocation.
Dr Tax urged the diplomatic community to honour the government’s call to open up embassies in Dodoma. Plots have been allocated and title deeds handed over to all embassies and international organizations. She added that the government has also invested heavily to ensure that Dodoma is well-equipped with quality basic social services and adequate hard and soft infrastructure. The interest of French companies in investing in Tanzania has also gone up. Tanzania also received a large investors mission from France under Mouvement Des Entreprises De France – International (MEDEF) International and Business France recently. French Ambassador to Tanzania, Nabil Hajlaoui, remarked that the new office in Dodoma is a milestone in bilateral relations with Tanzania.
