Greenlight Planet is  the market leader in the rapidly expanding
pay-as-you-go (PAYG) solar industry. It has supplied clean and
reliable energy access to more than 1.5 million people in Tanzania.
Greenlight’s products -Sun King- are now in more than 300,000
Tanzanian households.   It has replaced more than 300,000 metric tons
of greenhouse gas. The saving for the economy was more than 70 billion
Tanzanian shillings (US$30 million) in  terms of reduced prices for
their lighting purposes. Only less than 17 percent of Tanzania’s rural
population has access to electricity. The government plans to increase
rural household connectivity to 50 percent by 2025 and to 75 percent
by 2033.

Greenlight Planet Tanzania with its headquarters  in Arusha, employs
175 Tanzanians and runs 30 Sun King branch stores throughout the
country  to  ensure its Sun King products available in the most
under-electrified areas.  The customers have the option to pay for
their Sun King solar product in small installments over time,
enhancing its affordability.   With a network of 800 sales agents and
a range of strategic distribution partnerships, the company is helping
to deliver clean, reliable energy to the vastly dispersed off-grid
population of rural Tanzania.

The company recently launched lifestyle products such as televisions
offering off-grid rural Tanzanians the same entertainment and
information opportunities as their urban counterparts. The company has
also recently entered into a partnership with Vodacom Tanzania to make
solar products even more affordable for off-grid customers. The
company sells its products in over 65 countries.
