Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu Hassan is visiting Turkey. There she was received by her counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan at Ankara. This is the first time a Tanzanian President has visited Turkey in 14 years. Both leaders are expected to focus on bilateral relations and improving cooperation between the two countries.

Hassan, who is accompanied by a business delegation, will also attend a conference aimed at expanding the scope of investment and markets for her country’s agricultural products. They are also expected to discuss improving Tanzania’s trade balance with Turkey, with Hassan earlier remarking that trade volumes between the two countries have surged in recent years.
The two leaders are also expected to sign eight cooperation agreements and discuss current global and regional issues. Hassan’s visit to Turkey runs from 17-21 April.
Bilateral trade between Tanzania and Turkey has surged by 400 percent over the past decade, according to President Samia Suluhu Hassan. USSpeaking during a ceremony held on April 18, 2024, where she was honored with an Honorary Doctorate from Ankara University, Turkey’s second-largest university, President Hassan said the volume of trade between the two countries has surged from $60 million in the 2011/2012 fiscal year to USD 300 million by 2022-23.

President Hassan emphasized Tanzania’s commitment to attracting reputable partners for transformative infrastructure projects. She cited the involvement of Turkish company Yapi Merkezi in Tanzania’s Standard Gauge Railway project as a testament to this commitment. The two countries are expected to sign eight cooperation agreements.
