Joseph Kakuda, Sikonge Member of Parliament (MP-CCM), Tanzania has
alleged that telecommunication towers in eight wards of the
constituency are not properly working   disrupting communications in
the area.

While addressing the National Assembly recently, the legislator said
that the signal network of towers of Vodacom, Airtel, Tigo and Halotel
have disrupted the communication in the locality and the local people
are put to great disadvantages.  Also, some more wards in his
constituency, such as  Nyahua, Igigwa and Ngonjwa have no
communication signals at all making use of mobile phones impossible..

The MP also asked the government to give a timeframe for setting right
the towers so as to ensure better mobile connectivity. Deputy minister
of transport and communication Eng. Atashasta Nditiye said that the
government through the Universal Access Services Fund (UCSAF) has
extended grants  for erecting of towers in the district and very soon
that work will be carried out. He also mentioned that the Tanzania
Communication Regulatory Authority (TCRA) will also conduct quality
assessment for the communications services’ signal network to assess
the functioning of the towers and corrective measures would be taken.
