Tanzania and Uganda try to sort out the border issue

Tanzania will now be able to report any mistreatment to Tanzania Trade Development Authority (TanTrade) or directly to the Minister of Industry and Trade, through a hotline to be placed at all border posts. The new development was revealed   by the Minister of Trade and Industry Innocent Bashungwa during the Tanzania-Uganda Business Forum that brought together over 1,400 participants from both countries.  Forum meeting concluded recently with a positive note by the private sectors of both countries.

The move to monitor the border activities comes close on the heels of President John Magufuli and his Ugandan counterpart Yoweri Museveni, who faulted public servants of both countries for creating obstructions for trade between the two countries at border posts. If a trader is mishandled or mistreated by government officers at the borders between Uganda and Tanzania, the affected person   can raise the matter for further action. Traders have welcomed the initiatives and hoped that it would boost the two-way trade.

In the meantime, at a function held Tanzanian President John Magufuli and Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni have thrown open the Mwalimu Nyerere Foundation (MNF) Building built by China Railway Construction Engineering Group (CRCEG) recently in Dar-es Slam. The 30-story foundation headquarters is a cooperative project of CRCEG, MNF and International Finance Corporation (IFC) with a total investment of US$ 150 million. The inauguration of the building marked the 20th anniversary of the passing of Tanzania’s founding leader, Mwalimu Julius Nyerere.
