The Government of Taiwan has sent a specialized naval delegation from its Ocean Affairs division to Somaliland, taking a major step toward activating a new maritime security cooperation framework between the two partners.
The delegation landed today in Hargeisa, where they received a warm and formal welcome from the Commander of the Somaliland Coast Guard, Admiral Ahmed Hure Haariye, alongside senior Coast Guard officials. The reception underscored the increasing importance both governments place on protecting regional waters, securing maritime trade routes, and preserving critical ocean resources.
Throughout the visit, discussions centered on deepening collaboration in maritime safety and security. Both sides explored plans to broaden professional training for Somaliland Coast Guard personnel, improve joint operational capabilities, and strengthen surveillance and protection of Somaliland’s strategically significant coastline.

Admiral Haariye, hosted a welcoming dinner in honor of the Taiwanese delegation. This gathering offered an informal setting for reviewing upcoming initiatives designed to enhance Somaliland’s maritime defense systems and fortify joint efforts to counter piracy, smuggling, and other maritime threats.
The visit represents a meaningful advancement in the growing Somaliland–Taiwan relationship and is expected to lay the foundation for sustained, long-term cooperation in regional maritime security.
