From October, Edelweiss ,Switzerland’s popular leisure airlines, will fly to three new destinations in Tanzania Kilimanjaro, Zanzibar and Dar es Salaam. As per the Edelweiss’s announcement, the direct flights between Zurich to Kilimanjaro International Airport (KIA) twice a week will start from October 8, 2021.It is expected to cater to high-end tourists from Europe during the tourism peak season.Giving the details of the schedule of the new flights, Swiss Tanzania’s General Manager, Mr. André Bonjour told tour operators in Arusha recently that the flight to Zanzibar will be only once a week, and from October 12, 2021 there will be an alternative flight to Dar es Salam .
Tanzania’s $2.6 billion tourism industry targets to attract five million tourists and generate $6 billion in foreign exchange by 2025. Edelweiss Air offers a strategic partnership to achieve Tanzania’s target. Mr. André Bonjour pointed out that the introduction of three destinations in Tanzania during tough Pandemic times, is not only a vote of confidence to the country, but also a big boost to its travel industry by exposing its diversity.
Tanzania Association of Tour Operators (TATO)’s chairman, Mr Wilbard Chambulo said the tourism industry welcomed Edelweiss Air at the crucial time.
