The latest Transparency International report has ranked Sub-Saharan Africa as the lowest-performing region on the CPI with a score of 32. About 180 countries and territories are rated by The Corruption Perception Index (CPI), every year. The assessment is based on their perceived levels of public sector corruption ranks, drawing on 13 expert assessments and surveys of business executives. A scale of 0 to 100, zero is used and a score below 50 is regarded as serious levels of corruption in the public sector.
Seychelles proved to be a consistent performer in Africa, with a score of 66, followed by Botswana at 60. At the bottom of the index are Sudan (16), Somalia (12) and South Sudan (12). South Sudan is the second most corrupt across the globe, followed by Somalia. The latest report rates Rwanda as the least corrupt in East Africa with 54 points and was followed by Tanzania with 38, Kenya with 31, Uganda 27, and Burundi 19.
