Steinmeier’s Africa Tour Marks Germany’s Shift Toward Equal Partnership and Sustainable Growth

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier has begun a weeklong tour of Egypt, Ghana, and Angola to strengthen Germany’s political and economic partnerships across Africa under the Compact with Africa framework.

His first stop in Egypt included the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum and talks with President al-Sisi on regional issues and investment in energy and transport infrastructure. In Ghana, Steinmeier will meet President Mahama to discuss expanding cooperation in renewable energy, tech innovation, and vaccine production, reinforcing Ghana’s role as a regional growth hub.

The final leg in Angola highlights Germany’s support for diversification beyond oil and interest in major projects like the Lobito Corridor under the EU’s Global Gateway initiative.
