Standard Chartered Bank Zambia has invested over US$2 million in the development of various digital platforms to reach out to the unbanked population. This, the bank said, would contribute to digitization of the economy, leading to growth and employment generation, the bank officials said.

The bank has launched a cardless cash service on the Standard Chartered mobile application. This online platform will enable people to send and receive money on their phones. This also will address the urban- rural digital divide. Most people in remote areas do not have access to financial services.

The bank launched the cardless cash service yesterday (Wednesday) and expects this service would enable people of Zambia to transact with ease and in the comfort of their homes rather than reaching out to the banks which can be several miles away. This service, which can be transacted over mobile phones also will help Zambians working in places other than their cities or villages to send their money to the families without the interlocution of physical banks, which is time consuming and costly.
