Standard Bank Group has achieved a major milestone at the 2025 Euromoney Awards for Excellence, earning 26 accolades across its African operations. At the prestigious ceremony in London, the bank was named Africa’s Best Bank and recognised for excellence in corporate and investment banking, SME support, customer service, and responsible banking practices.

Euromoney, a globally respected financial publication with over three decades of evaluating financial institutions, uses a comprehensive assessment process involving performance metrics, market insights, and client feedback. Standard Bank’s sweeping recognition affirms its leadership role in African banking and its ability to deliver across corporate, retail, and investment banking sectors.

Sim Tshabalala, Chief Executive of Standard Bank Group, underscored the bank’s long-term vision for the continent. “Our purpose is clear: Africa is our home; we drive her growth. As Africa continues to be one of the fastest-growing regions globally, we are well-positioned to harness emerging opportunities, generate strong shareholder returns, and create meaningful impact for our clients and communities,” he said.

The Group’s Corporate and Investment Banking (CIB) division dominated the awards haul, securing 18 of the 26 wins. CIB CEO Luvuyo Masinda attributed this success to deep sector knowledge and strong client partnerships. “Our expertise in key sectors like energy and infrastructure, paired with tailored financing and advisory solutions, enables us to meet client needs with precision,” said Masinda.

He highlighted ongoing investments in data analytics and a strategic focus on high-growth sectors such as mining, infrastructure, energy, and TMT (technology, media & telecommunications). Strengthening capabilities in equity and debt capital markets, as well as developing the next generation of investment talent, are also key to the bank’s forward-looking strategy.

The awards reflect the breadth of Standard Bank’s regional footprint, with distinctions spanning Angola, Botswana, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia.

In South Africa, the bank was named Best Overall Bank and Best Bank for Large Corporates and Investment Banking. It also received praise for enhancing customer experience and supporting SMEs in Nigeria, Tanzania, and Zambia. Recognition for corporate responsibility efforts in Zambia further highlights the bank’s dedication to sustainable and inclusive growth.
