- A rare pink diamond, the largest so far mined globally has been found in Angola. According to reports, the diamond weighing 34 grams, is the largest diamond mined in the last 300 years.
A rare pink diamond, the largest so far mined globally has been found in Angola. According to reports, the diamond weighing 34 grams, is the largest diamond mined in the last 300 years. Before this, a 185-carat Daria-i-Noor, was cut from a larger stone which is now among the Iranian national jewels.
 According to the latest figures from the Angolan Ministry of Finance, diamond production in Angola this year grew by 16.6% year on year to 2.4 million carats. Diamantino Azevedo, Angola’s Minister of Mineral Resources stated that the discovery of the diamond proves the significance of Angola as a global player in diamond mining.
The 170-carat stone was mined from Lulo mine and has been named the “Lulo Rose”, after the mine. The Lulo mine,is a joint venture between Australia’s Lucapa Diamond Company and the Angolan government.
The Lulo Rose the fifth largest diamond recovered from Lulo mine is a type 2a diamond with almost no impurities.
