As promised in president Cyril Ramaphosa’s economic recovery rescue plan announced a few days ago, the South African government is now looking to recruit 300,000 school assistants. This ambitious employment drive implemented by the department of basic education and facilitated by the Harambee Youth Accelerator, a non-profit organization, will place assistants in nearly 26,000 public schools.

A R100 billion stimulus package is set apart for this mass recruitment initiative to create jobs. The project is driven by President Cyril Ramaphosa’s Project Management Office. The Presidential Youth Employment Intervention project aims to create work opportunities for more than 800,000 South Africans.

\The program spans all provinces and involves 15 national departments and is aimed at strengthening the learning environment in schools by creating support structures for primary educators. In the meantime, the scheme also creates employment to many.

Several agencies, mostly non-profit organizations have been tasked with recruitment of the basic teachers, such as SA Youth, Harambee and Tshepo 1M etc. The candidates will have to apply online for such posts. Unemployed youth between 18 and 35 years old have been encouraged to register with these organizations which serve as government’s employment portals.
