Information Minister Saleban Yusuf Ali Koore of Somaliland alleged that BBC broadcasts have reduced the identity and dignity of the break way nation from Somalia. The Minister accused the BBC was biased and acted against the independence of Somaliland.
Addressing the reporters in the Somaliland capital of Hargeisa, the Minister said that authorities had come to the decision after internal discussions. The Somali Land Minister
Koore said the ban was imposed in view of the BBC’s failure to recognize Somaliland as a democratic nation, that has seen multiple presidential and parliamentary elections for the last 31 years.
A former British protectorate, Somaliland the breakaway region of northern Somalia declared independence in 1991 after Somalia descended into a civil war.
