After Somalia’s parliament unanimously endorsed Hamza Abdi Barre as new prime minister, he was sworn in to office on June 25th ushering in the creation of a new government. Mr Barre from the semi-autonomous state of Jubaland was the choice of the recently elected President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud who won the elections in May after a long-delayed and stormy voting process.

People hope that the presidency of Mohamud, a former academic and peace activist and former president from 2012 to 2017 will bring the curtains on the long political crisis that almost plunged the country into violent chaos.
