The mandate of President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed, known as Farmajo, expired in February 2021. He extended the mandate in April leading to a wave of violence in the capital, Mogadishu.
The incoming chairman of Somalia’s Federal Election Implementation Team (FEIT)affirmed his commitment to hold the long -awaited scrutiny for the election. He said that the FEIT is committed to start quickly and meet this new deadline. Somalia is in the grip of a deadly insurgency by Al-Shabaab extremists. Recently, there was a suicide bomb, which exploded in the capital killing at least four people.
