Solar Park in Togo to be expanded

  • National Development Plan of Togo is aimed at expanding electricity access to the people. As part of the plan AMEA Power LLC, a Dubai-based renewables company will expand the Mohammed Bin Zayed solar plant in central Togo solar park.

Nearly half of the population of Togo does not have access to electricity.   The National Development Plan of Togo is aimed at expanding electricity access to the people. As part of the plan AMEA Power LLC, a Dubai-based renewables company will expand the Mohammed Bin Zayed solar plant in central Togo solar park. The plan is to add 20 MW of additional capacity and a 4-MWh battery storage system to ensure electricity supply at night.

The first two phases of the solar farm completed in less than 18 months by AMEA Power, during the pandemic, went online in June 2021. Since then, it has been feeding electricity into the grid.

According to AMEA Power, once the expansion is completed, it will be West Africa’s largest solar park with a total capacity of 70 MW. and the facility will also have the capacity to supply clean power to more than 222,000 households. AMEA Technical Services, a subsidiary of AMEA Power will be implementing the expansion plan.

The Abu Dhabi Exports Office will finance the project by extending a loan of USD 25 million to the Togolese Ministry of Economy and Finance.
