Spanish wind power operator -Siemens Gamesa-  will install 87 wind turbines at the Boujdour wind farm in southern Morocco to give a critical push to the drive of the North African country to
increasingly resort to clean energy.

With a capacity of 300 megawatts, the project will be implemented in a park seven kilometers north-east of the city of Boujdour entailing an investment of MAD 4 billion (US$435.4 million). It is likely to be completed by the third quarter of 2022. Siemens Gamesa will be responsible for supply, transport, installation, commission and testing of the wind turbines. The testing will be done by one of the affiliates of the Siemens Gamesa. Importantly, the project has an in-built clause regarding service contract for five years by the implementing company.

The wind farm is a joint venture between– Nareva- a Moroccan energy company and Italian firm  End Green Power. The consortium acquired the interests in the wind farm in 2016 as part of an 850 MW tender under the Moroccan Integrated Wind Power Project. The company has five energy farms. Importantly, Morocco aims at deriving 52% of its installed capacity from renewable energy resources by 2030.
