Takamaka Bay Rum, a product made in Seychelles, is expected to hit 50 new markets in the coming three to five years. The company, which produces the rum -Trois Frères Distillery-  got listed on the Merj Stock Exchange on May 18  to enable liquidity inflows to fund its expansion activities.  Merj Exchange Limited, formerly known as Tropex, is the seat of the Seychelles’ securities market.

The listing comes 20 years after two brothers, Richard and Bernard D’Offay- set up the distillery  at the La Plaine St Andre on the main island of Mahe.

Now, the owners of the distillery wanted to take their brand Takamaka to the world and to make people taste the spirit from the Seychelles. The owners revealed that it took three years of work and planning for them to get listed at the stock exchange. Established in 2002 at the old plantation house of La Plaine St Andre, the distillery was originally built in 1798. It produces dark rum made from sugar cane and has global demand among connoisseurs of rum. It is a major export item of the Indian Ocean Island and can be seen in major duty free shops across the world including Dubai.   It is also sold in Europe with distribution points in the United Kingdom, Germany, United Arab Emirates, China, Mauritius, Madagascar, Maldives, South African and Djibouti.

The distillery is the first molasses based one in Seychelles and has a capacity of distilling 600 bottles a day. The company is sourcing its raw materials-molasses- locally, thereby saving the foreign exchange for the country. The company expects many people; particularly the local will be interested in investing in the company and to get enriched from that.
