Seafood company Ocean Basket Seychelles is in the process of building an EU standard fish and seafood processing plant at the Providence Industrial Estate on the main island of Mahe. This is in line with the company’s effort towards increasing its fish production capacity. The company has already initiated
an environmental impact assessment (EIA) process for setting up the new project. This is a large project, which can considerably increase the fish processing capacity of the Island Nation lying in the Indian Ocean.
The government has already allotted Ocean Basket 800 square metres of land at the Providence Fishing Industrial Zone. The government has instructed the company to comply with a set of standards for the construction to ensure minimal impact on the environment.
The project is in the final phase of completion and will have a capacity to process at least 15 tonnes of fish and seafood products daily. Presently, Ocean Basket processes around 300 tonnes of by-catch per month. The company deploys industrial tuna fishing vessels for the catch under the requirement by Seychelles law to retain other pelagic species caught in tuna nets.
