The Embattled North region of Tigray in Ethiopia is facing severe shortages according to the United Nations. The region, where 6 million people are living, faces threats by Ethiopian federal forces.
Analysts opine that no one can predict how long the troubled situation would continue. If Abiy Ahmed could bag a quick victory, then perhaps he would be able to establish control. If the situation drifts in case the Tigrayans head for the mountains, a rough terrain, violence would precipitate and solution would be further delayed. Even then, the Ethiopian forces would have an advantage having control over the skies. Another possibility is the drone attack from the United Arab Emirates who have drones based in neighboring Eritrea, and they are said to be using these drones against key targets.
Reports suggest that Ethiopian federal troops are now preventing people from crossing the river into Sudan. This had led to substantial drop in the number of refugees seeking asylum in neighboring Sudan. Over a million people are now displaced. Supply of Fuel and cash are severely affected. Travel blockades prevent access to Tigrayan capital, Mekele. This has affected the operations of the UN World Food Program.
