It seems South Africa is in the grip of a second wave of pandemic, as the hospitals are witnessing a surge in the number of infected
patients.

The intensive Care Units (ICU) being full and even waiting rooms are being transformed into wards. This has affected considerably the new admissions, spreading panic among the people. South Africa’s Covid-19 caseload has reached new highs.  More than 100,000 new Covid-19 cases registered in just nine days. The government is trying to create more additional beds to accommodate patients. Even then demand outstripped supply of beds.

Covid-19 cases in South Africa have breached the one million mark of confirmed COVID-19 cases. On last Sunday alone 9 502 cases were reported, taking the cumulative total to 1 004 413 cases.

With every relaxation of the restrictions on the sale of alcohol, the number of trauma cases reporting at the  hospitals has increased,
authorities have pointed out, adding that the huge numbers have already outstretched the hospital capacities to cater to the patients. The government recently announced a ban on the sale of alcohol and a stricter curfew, among other measures, to address the spread of pandemic.
