Direct flights between Jeddah and Dar es salaam by Saudia Airlines, Saudi Arabia’s national airline inaugurated on March 26 with a 180-seater Airbus A320, landing at Julius Nyerere Airport.
Hailing the development as a testimony to the country’s business-friendly environment, Works and Transport minister Makame Mbarawa stated that the commencement of direct flights between the two countries will boost the volume of international travellers to Tanzania. Without a direct flight, the travellers had to fly through Addis Ababa or Doha, which took 10 hours of flying time. The direct flight has reduced the travel time to just 4.40m hours.
Tanzania Airports Authority (TAA) director general Mussa Mbura informed that weekly four flights will ply between JNIA and King Abdulaziz International Airport, including Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays.
He added that according to the Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority, 2.618 million international travellers to Tanzania recorded a growth of 55 percent in 2022 compared to 2021. The travellers included both businesspersons as well as tourists.
