Musica, an electronic goods chain store in South Africa will be pulling the shutters after being in business for over 30 years. The well known entertainment brand selling electronic goods having different sales outlets in the country will be closing the last store in May of this year. During its three decades of existence, the company has transited through a range of products including CDs, cassettes, DVDs and finally electronic music systems and related goods.

Musica is listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange through its parent company, Clicks, which deals in health & beauty products. It appears that with the closure of Musica, the employees will be absorbed in other outlets of Clicks.  Significantly, Clicks overall retail and beauty sales rose by 8%, while the group’s online sales jumped a meaty 173%, though  from a small base.

Musica and GameStop are two companies-under Clicks. Clicks Group is a retail-led healthcare group and has been operating since 1996.  It sells retail brands like Clicks, GNC, The Body Shop, Claire’s and Musica.  The group has over 880 stores across southern Africa. Clicks has the largest retail pharmacy chain with over 580 in-store pharmacies. United Pharmaceutical Distributors (UPD), a part of the group is South Africa’s leading full-range national pharmaceutical wholesaler.
