Safaricom Chief Executive Peter Ndegwa announced that his company is finalizing plans to roll out new phones in the Kenyan market. The new product, which is 4G powered, is priced at Ksh20 per day soon after
Safaricom had partnered with Google to enable Kenyans to acquire smartphones on credit. Cost of devices, the company hopes, would no longer be an impediment. The new plan known as Lipa Mdogo Mdogo gives an opportunity to customers to own a 4G- enabled device by paying only Ksh20 a day. The offer will be available uniformly for all phones. But the cost of the daily plan could go up depending on the value of the phone.
Safaricom is seeking to grow its revenue from data embedded devices. This has been on an upward trajectory in the last few years compared to voice calls. To cash on data, it is important to facilitate universal access. The new devices are also using 4G enabled platforms to send photos and videos of their product to customers, taking orders online and delivering them at door step.
