The Southern African Development Community (SADC) has officially initiated its Electoral Observation Mission (SEOM) to monitor the Presidential and National Assembly elections scheduled to take place in Seychelles this week.
The formal launch was conducted by the Head of Mission, Honourable Justice Andrew K. C. Nyirenda, who is leading the SEOM delegation. The announcement was made during a special session held on Saturday morning at the Eden Bleu Hotel. The purpose of the mission is to ensure that the electoral process in Seychelles is conducted in a peaceful, transparent, and credible manner, in line with democratic principles and standards promoted by SADC.
Justice Nyirenda emphasized the importance of free and fair elections in strengthening democracy and political stability within the region. The SEOM will be engaging with various electoral stakeholders, including political parties, civil society organizations, and the Electoral Commission, to assess the pre-election environment, election day procedures, and the post-election phase.
