Mozambique’s President Daniel Chapo has arrived in Zimbabwe for the SADC Extraordinary Summit on DRC. President Chapo was welcomed at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport by the Minister of Defence, Honourable Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri, and Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Mozambique, Ambassador Victor Matemadanda.
The extraordinary meeting of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) took place in Harare, Zimbabwe to discuss mainly the developments in the conflict-torn area in the Goma region of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Attended by Heads of State of Botswana, Mozambique, and Tanzania, the summit brought together regional leaders to deliberate on pressing security and political matters within the SADC bloc, particularly concerning peace, and stability in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
The exact details of the meeting are still awaited. Insider sources say that leaders expressed their concerns about the escalating tension in the region. Despite the deployment of troops from multiple countries to contain the tension in the region, nothing much has gained from that. The rebel group, M23 has brought under its control most of Goma, and reports are that they are advancing towards other regions, although reports have to be verified.
