RwandAir has signed a codeshare agreement with Qatar Airways. The agreement will connect Rwanda’s national carrier code on 65 routes of the Doha-based airline. In a statement by RwandAir, it stated that the customers of both airlines will benefit from more choice, enhanced service, and greater connectivity to destinations across Africa and the rest of the world. By December this year, the RwandAir is expected to begin new non-stop flights between their Kigali hub and Doha.
Yvonne Makolo, RwandAir CEO called the development a major milestone for RwandAir as it will offer their customers more choice and flexibility, strengthening the global presence of RwandAir and enlarging its African customer- base. The partnership she said will take the national carrier a further step on the recovery path as the world continues to emerge from the pandemic.
RwandAir continues to strengthen its network, which currently stands at over 25 destinations. Recently RwandAir was awarded as Africa’s second-best airline for this year’s world’s best airlines as well as the world’s second-best improved airline while Qatar Airways emerged as the best global airline. Welcoming the partnership, Akbar Al-Baker, Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, added, that the new partnership will help position Qatar Airways in the region and complement their African expansion strategy. He observed that such dynamic partnerships will enable the airlines to cater to the pent-up demand for travel, propelling travel, tourism and trade.
The new codeshare will enable RwandAir customers to avail attractive offers to popular destinations in Europe and the U.S.
